Coming in as a transfer student, I felt kind of pressured to pick a major right away. I knew I liked languages but wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do, so I continued to study Spanish, and on a whim signed up for an Italian class. I’m so glad I did, because these two courses of study completely shaped my college experience. I was able to study abroad in Italy twice—something I hadn’t even thought of before taking Professor Boyle’s Italian 101. From those opportunities, I now have friends all over the world, memories that I’ll never forget, and new ideas about possible careers. I love that the MLL department is so much more than just learning grammar or translating literature; you get to discover new cultures and see the full picture.
