 elcome to the Fall 2016 issue of Global Voices, the News and Events pages for the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the College of William & Mary. It has been a rich and fruitful semester, with events ranging from a masterful win at the annual Raft Debate, to exciting experiences studying abroad and doing undergraduate research; in between, an illuminating talk on German detective fiction, a guest lecture on Japanese beauty queens, and a workshop on Dominican bachata, and much, much more! Of course, new research by MLL faculty, and new members of the department have a special spot in this issue.
