When I came to W&M I knew I wanted to continue taking Spanish classes, but I had no idea that would lead to becoming a Hispanic Studies major! Spending a semester in Sevilla opened my eyes to new and exciting experiences, like living with my wonderful host family, and exploring Spain. Because of my time in Spain, I ended up taking a translation class when I got back to campus. It was so challenging– we subtitled a Spanish documentary and for our final project we translated 10 pages of our chosen text- but I learned a lot! The friends I’ve made in my Hispanic Studies classes are wonderful, and have become some of my best friends at college. The impact of this major will be long lasting, as I’ll be spending the next two years with Teach for America down in Miami!
